Score:  Sets 7-2,  Games 76-42                      Games won 64%

Janet and Maz           9-0, 9-1, 9-7

Pauline and Helen   9-5, 9-7, 5-9

Kerry and Lesley      9-3, 8-9, 9-2

The first match of the season was preceded with uncertainty of play due to the unsettled weather, however at 6pm we couldn’t have asked for better.

A big thank you to Christine for coming to support us and for bringing up the new scoreboards that husband Dave had designed and crafted for us.

Kerry and Lesley having been on good form in recent practises, worked hard and encouraged each other throughout, beat the  Greenfield No1 pair convincingly.  They took the lead 3-0, putting the opposition on the back foot, finishing with an impressive final score 9-3.  In the second game against their No 2 pair, they were losing 1-5 but remained strong and recovered to 6-8, and then 8-8, forcing a tie break situation which they lost 3-7.  Well done for coming back from so far behind. They won the third game with a very convincing score 9-2, although by this stage the light was fading and they were desperate for a cup of tea to ease their aches and pains!

Pauline and Helen won their first two matches against the Greenfield No 3 and No1 pairs 9-5 and 9-7, respectively.  They got off to a nervous start and maybe gave away more games than they should. This caused them to tire in their last match, especially since it was the first time in nearly 12 months that they had had to endure such long games. The final score was 5-9. They did however get the opportunity to test the floodlights.

Janet and Maz hit the ground running, with an excellent 9-0 victory over Greenfield 2nd pairing and were equally destructive in their 9-1 victory over the 3rd pair. However, after a break they found the first pairing a much bigger challenge and endured a much closer game, but after being 7-6 down dug in deep to win 9-7.

Well done to everyone, a very impressive start to the season.

Thank you for all the tea contributions.

Next match at home, Thurs 24 May against Rothley.
