Oaks and District Tennis Club
Ladies’ Captain’s Report 2012
Dear All
I am pleased to say that the ladies have had a wonderful full year of tennis.
In January we continued our winter friendly matches, with some excellent results, the majority, if not, all were won. We continued with good attendance at the regular indoor practices on Thursday evenings at the Loughborough University LTA facility.
A group of ladies improved their skills and enjoyed Sunday morning coaching with Adam Popowicz ,whose enthusiasm and expertise was extremely encouraging.
Caroline Wilkinson, despite suffering a major knee injury herself, continued to share her knowledge and wisdom, on Wednesday mornings, during term time, and included us in her Awards evening in December. Whilst we didn't win any awards, Hannah Summers was nominated for "Best backhand, Pauline Graham "The most tenacious player" and Janet Sladen "The most improved serve".

A few of our Ladies entered the Leicestershire Ladies Veterans League, improving our standard and confidence ready for the season ahead, and achieving great results.
We entered a team in the Leicestershire Summer League and fought extremely hard to come runners up in Division 6B, being only beaten by the team who came top. It was amazing how the weather was so kind and we were able to play with only minor disruption.
For the first time in the history of the club, several of us entered the Leicestershire LOROS league, with two of the pairs coming top of their group. The matches were enjoyed and we were able to support a good cause at the same time.
Two teams were entered into the Leicestershire Winter League resulting in our 2nd team coming runners up in their group. Everyone supported and pulled together to make entering two teams a great success.
The new scoreboards were certainly worthwhile for those of us who suffer from minor memory loss, whilst concentrating so hard on our tennis, and also very useful to those of us watching.
Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who have helped to manage the club, maintain the courts, clubhouse, and website.
Good luck to all our ladies in 2013, keep entering those competitions and tournaments wherever you can and let us use new technology to communicate and spread the word about our club!
Janet Sladen
